As an innovative neighborhood development and community strengthening organization, the primary mission of the Plymouth Runnin Rebels Basketball Club, Inc. is to provide comprehensive co-curricular recreational activities by connecting effective performance habits from activities such as basketball with effective work habits need to excel academically. The Plymouth Runnin Rebels Basketball Club, Inc. is a community based, nonprofit, volunteer organization which links academics and athletics for a multicultural, interracial group of children, ages ten to fourteen, in the City of Plymouth, North Carolina. Through the membership, bonding, and unique support structure offered by sports teams, the Runnin Rebels transforms and expands the athletic experience into a learning environment, which keeps these pre-teen off the streets and motivates them to work harder in school. The children in the Runnin Rebels Basketball Club are encouraged and assisted in meeting the same tough standards to succeed in the classroom as they meet to win a basketball game. As they practice and win at basketball, they must do homework and produce good grades on report cards so that they can make the Runnin Rebels organization proud. Participants in the organization learn the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship for a successful journey to their educational goals and lifetime of good citizenship.
